    What's with...
    « on: January 27, 2008, 08:11:14 AM »
...all the posts for Windows 98?  Is 98 rearing it's ugly head again from the dust of time?   :P

My first response when I see an issue related to Windows 98 is "Upgrade!"  That's obviously not a helpful comment.
Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

There's nothing essentially wrong with using older operating systems.
In my list of favourite to hated, Win2K and 98SE both feature highly.

Have you tried running 3.11 or 95 on a newer machine? They're faster than you can imagine. ;)

          Exactly my point.
I don't have either of those, but 98SE on a modern computer flies like a bird, with a fair amount of features too.

No I haven't, and I can only hope that your wink means that you haven't tried it either.  ;D

All i know is with Win2K on a dual core setup with 2G of RAM it's the first time i've seen an OS that can't keep up with the hardware in my lifetime...

          Kinda refreshing !

I haven't checked, but I imagine finding RAID drivers for 3.11 is not an easy task.

Nope, I haven't. One of the contractor's I deal with at work said he tried it and was amazed at how fast windows 95 was.

You just cant change some peoples minds.   ....

I use 98SE,  and you can easily change my mind.   Just pm me your credit card number.

And that, I think, is probably why so many are using 98.    (By the way, I'm glad for this thread,  because I was thinking it was just me that felt that there are a quite a few 98 posts lately)

I think it is just sheer $$.      There are lots of people out here that most certainly would like to go buy new hardware and the accompaning software, but don't have the money to spend on it.   Thus,  we have to keep the old stuff going as best we can.
