    Can't read blank CD
    « on: May 23, 2008, 06:24:22 PM »
I have a custom built computer, with Windows XP Professional SP2 installed, my problem is with my CD/DVD drive, 2G RAM,  320G hard drive, BitDefender Total Security, when I insert a blank CD into the CD/DVD drive, my computer doesn't detect that it is there, but when I insert other disks such as software, my computer does detect that they are there.  Can anyone help?

So is one a DVD and the other a Cdrom?

What exactly does it mean? You can't see blank disk through Windows Explorer, or it doesn't prompt you for action upon insertion?

        Try one of these:
        1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
        or...
        2. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip
        or...
        3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
        You'll see two items:
        - ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
        - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstal. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

I am trying to burn music onto a blank CD-RW.  It is my D: drive.

Go into to device manager and reinstall that drive! Chances are if it worked before! It is now dead. Or your copying software is corrupt.

I don't know if it worked before or not, this was my first time trying.

In a few minutes, you were able to read two links, check registry, download, install, run "cdgone", delete IDE channels, and restart computer three times?
              You're superfast, then.

It helps to have a fast computer.
