Compared to Vista...I'd be willing to pay the extra $50...in a heartbeat!

I get the strangest feeling Broni disagrees.

I'd just let them put Vista on, then reformat it myself and install XP. ha ha. Thats 50 bucks saved.

The best strategy of all :)

I meant if I was forced into buying a Dell or something. Then they'd be like, would you like Vista, or XP, which would cost you 50$ more. and I'd say, "vista" then the first thing I'd do is reformat and repartition(removing that diagnostic partition) and install XP. this has the dual benefit of removing all the crap they decide we all need. Then again, I'd probably do that with every manufacturer anyway.

I hate kenmore stoves. someones kenmore stove burnt their house down. I mean sure, they left it on max with some dried twigs on the element, but that's not the point...

The only thing Dell about a dell computer is simply the case.(not counting the "let's change the power supply for no reason and then charge twice as much for it!" type stuff) Dell used to be a clone manufacturer, and technically still is. Then again, so all all the other companies, the only question is what are they copying?

Yea know im really mad that dell just dropped XP in favor for vista, Dell should have let XP run a bit longer before Vista came out but no. Everyone wants the lasted and greatest for themselves and then they realize that Vista crashes oh the refunds there will be... and wat is more annoying is that there arent any Dell computers with XP that you can buy from the manufacture, you have to buy them from ebay or your local ads.

Dell should drop the $50 dollar fee and let people get XP for free instead of Vista because on the market Vista is more expensive than XP.  ???  ???  ???

I don't really understand the whole point- Personally if for some reason I bought a Dell, or Gateway, or what have you, the very first thing I would do is a reformat (and repartition to remove any "recovery partition" (except for a laptop) and install of Windows XP Pro. Thus the reason I wouldn't buy such a computer- I'd be better off to build my own. And, If I build my own, I don't get crap for all the "unmentioned" stuff, like the sound card and network card.

especially when you buy the computer from retail. they put a bunch of crappy programs that just waste disk space. i only found out and used a fraction of the stuff the put on there, same holds true for a blackberry, who needs webaccess on your mobile if you didnt buy the plan for webaccess.  ;)

Yes indeed!  But I'd go further... I think Win2k SP4, with the update rollup, is superior again to WinXP.  Does everything XP can do, at the same speed, in half the memory...

i wish that they could have the tools and networking that 2k has and combine it with the multimedia apps that xp has(eg Movie Maker)
