XP HOME ED STARTUP DISKS
« on: July 03, 2008, 03:09:06 PM »
Hi All, looking for a little help on trying to sort out a mate's PC:

OK, I make the 6 floppy disks, label them in order,
Change the boot order in the BIOS to boot from floppy
It does so...
Comes up with the "set up is now detecting hardware etc..."
Then just before it shuts down and loops the whole process again it flashes a failure but it's not on the screen long enough to read it!

I've tried booting from the XP CD too but with no success as seem to get a keyboard and mouse lock up when it loads into the OS.
Keyboard works fine when in DOS and when prompting BIOS options though?
They are both USB devices.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Flinch.

Dusty

Welcome to the CH forums.

I suspect a hardware failure or imminent failure.  Re-seat ram, check all connections.   Run Memtest86 and the hdd manufacturer's diagnostic program available from the manufacturer's site.

Good luck.
