Simple. What Antivirus Software do you have on your computer?
You can choose as many as you want.

Avast on Vista
AVG 8.0 on XP (thinking about getting rid of it)
AVG 7.5 on 2K, and 98.

First I had Norton Antivirus 2002 (or 2003, I don't remember). I really liked it. It performed very well but that was quite some time ago (before ComputerHope).
However, I still think it was a great antivirus.
After we got a new Computer, we carried our expectations of Norton along and bought Norton 360. HORRIBLE!
So my friend at the local computer store suggested Kaspersky.
WONDERFUL!

Started with Norton on Win98. IMHO, any product that requires a special script to remove from the system has definite design problems.

Used AVG on Win2000.

Currently using Avira on WinXP. They recently added a Rootkit scanner which I have found helpful.

AVG 8.0 on XP, none on Vista but will probably install something on it soon. The XP machine is used for most of my email.

Zone alarm killed my dads computer. It deleted all the exes it could find... one by one... (one every time the comp was turned on)

Dad thought it was a hoot when it first targeted the games, but he got very angry when it got word, excel, and powerpoint.

We worked out we'd got a fake version which was downloading all sorts of nasty stuff. (This was seven years ago.)

I was told I NEED NOD32, but, I simply cant afford it, and I don't believe in downloading programs illegally.

I use McAfee on my main laptop, and all my other computers use Avast. McAfee was provided free by my dads ISP, and they have really gotten better over the years, and faster.

I tried AVG twice, and decided I didnt like it. (One of my main judgments, besides detection rates provided by a datasheet made by some company, anyways, one of my main judgments is the control panel, and how easy it is to configure advanced options. Avast got me with how I can have more silent updates, and also, have a boot time scan.)

I've tried TrendMicro, but, didnt like the control panel. McAfee, according to magical data sheets, is better than both AVG and Avast. Ill just repeat that if I ever get a virus.

I have ClamWin available on my flash drive, and its also installed on my laptop, and I use that frequently for friends/family who need help, and already have a main scanner.

Certainly not . . . on a par with Norton IMHO.
Zylstra, have you tried AVG 8? A lot of people say it's easier to use than 7.5.

I used to have Norton Antivirus installed on all computers. It wasn't to bad of a program. The newest computer I got had Norton Internet Security 2006 which we upgraded to 2007. I actually liked it more than the old Norton Antivirus. Earlier this year when the subscription expired I thought I'd get 360. What a mistake that was. All computers except for my laptop now have Avast.

I also have Zone Alarm and Webroot Spysweeper. Zone Alarm used to be a great program until it's maker was bought out or something. It's starting to become like Norton.

PS: Zone Alarm is a firewall not an antivirus program. It does have a basic spyware/adware scanner built in though.

WE used to have norton which I cared very little for but for the longest time we didnt have any. This was when we had dial up, know we have it free cause of my dads employment again. The company traded bosses so he got rehired at the place that he gotten fired, anyway I like avast an used it my dad used avg but move to clam then to avast, my sister uses norton.

Nope, I haven't tried the latest version... I figured it was still 7.5.
Ill have to stick that on a flash drive for my cousin, he uses AVG. (He used to have Avast, but, when his brother redid his computer, he put AVG on it. So, I never bothered to switch it back, since, I figured, Avast and AVG are right around the same detection rates...)

I don't think that Avira makes Avast. Alwil makes Avast...

I remember there were a lot of people freaking out about AVast 4.8 (if your a die-hard Avast fan...), but, everything they changed was internal.
I really think that the "MP3 Player" interface makes it difficult for some users to use. I didn't have a problem with it when I first started using it.. and if I couldn't find something, I just looked under the drop down menu, which has everything that's on the main screen. Not to mention, most of my scans that I do with Avast are boot time scans.

Using Avast on my laptop and desktop. Think the other laptop (she who must be obeyed ) still has time left with Norton trial. After that, will be putting Avast on it also.

I dont use anything my firewalls off, im severely unpacthed and ive posted my IP on all major websites. good and bad, My computer is like a Rat waiting to get eaten just lying down in the sun with some kinda Violent bird swooping over it and when, the bird hits my computer its a gorey bloody site, the bird bites into the rat, and It throws the carcass into the air to let it suffer!
And yeah thats my Pc.

I might download something to atleast provide some cover in the next week or so
to get rid of my viruses I have on me.

Or atleast bury it

AVG 7.5
AdAware
Spybot
AVG Anti-Spyware
Win Patrol

Stinger ( on demand Trojan scanner )

No issues at all.

i only have 1 pc, used norton 2005 (don't remember), avast, avg 7, then avira but back to avg 7 again.
avira doesn't detect a virus in my psp that time.
I though zone alarm just a firewall, am i mistake?

That explains why I had installed it cause 2k dont have a firewall. I need to tighten my security. Dont have a pop blocker or firewalls or antivirus on a few/.

I use Avira now on my vista machine.

I used to use avast at one time, then I tested AVG, but decided to test other antivirus programs that were free. I heard that Avira has highest detection rates, Avast is most aggressive in scanning/protection, but AVG is best all around. That's what I heard, but who knows.

As long as all of them are free and all of them update or at least checks for updates at least once a day, I'd just pick the one that runs most smoothly on your computer (doesn't lag your computer) and has a GUI interface that you are comfortable with.

I still have the 2001 version of Norton from my old Dell. but its pretty much useless.

It works pretty darn good. Firewall is excellent, Program monitoring asks you if you want to run a program or proccess. Learning mode is great, it tells you if you Start Menu, System Folder, or other stuff Needs attention, is Fine, or is Critical.
