    Please help
    « on: October 09, 2008, 03:01:26 PM »
Hi - hope someone can help

Tonight, I deleted something off my husbands computer called   VIA RAID TOOL
when he restarted his computer - it basically wouldnt start

He then re-installed Windows XP from a disc - and now its wiped everything BUT it is still showing some original things are there - but nothing runs.

    Welcome to the CH forums.

I hope hubby has forgiven you ;D

You have deleted the Via Raid driver for his hard disk(s) - see here.

The driver can be downloaded and should be installed when re-installing XP (press F6 when the message appears at the bottom of screen soon after starting setup) - see here..

Good luck - you owe hubby, big time!!  :D

I can't be much help to you as I don't know what chipset is installed.  You might be able to glean some information from here and here..

The downloaded zip file seems to contain all drivers, the required one should be selected during installation.

Well, this may not help. The VIA drivers should be on the CD used to install the computer Motherboard. This is different from  the Windows Vista or XP install disk. It is a disc made by the maker of the computer. It contains the special drivers from VIA which are not usually part of the Windows stuff.

After DLoading they are normally put on a floppy and/or a CD for installation...
Following Dusty's recommendations you just point the XP install at the proper device containing the RAID drivers and the XP setup then continues...

          Hi

I downloaded a driver from VIA - put it on a flash stick - got my husband to re-install XP - and nothing - the XP disc wouldnt even install this time - now the screen is totally black with a flashing cursor top left  :(
