Sorry about that :[ I know better Ive been reading on this all morn.

      about the Windows 98 computer.

I need sights to go to to download utilites (like anitvirus software and IE 5 or 6)  microsoft and HP don't support it anymore.  I think that will fix the problems on this one. an HP Pavilion 4535 or is it too far out of date?

AS far as the XP one that is a differnt story: DH and ds were playing battle for middle earth and they had finally gotten the CDrw to read it and they didn't want to lose anything so they left it running all weekend comes sunday night.  I shut out of it and a debug screen comes up I click OK without really reading it and shut down the computer.  Monday morn I get up and computer won't stay on long enough to do anything even in safe mode.  I tired the system restore as well as acessing the partioned drive to reinstall it to factory settings when I could get it to stay on long enough to do anything.  It is an Hp pavilion 533 w.

I would appreciate any help you can give.
      Thankyou Dahart

I am afraid I am not too familiar with Windows 98, but i'll try.

Does the computer shut down at a specific time, or is it random?

      Any error messages at all?

Do you think it may be an overheating issue?

That is OK about the Win98 computer I will keep searching.

About the XP tho I don't think it is an overheating issue as I can hear the fan running.  I am just not sure anymore tho and going from XP back to win98 I feel like I am going back to the dino age..LOL

There is one thing that we were told we could try to see if that got it up and running it was to unplug power cord and to take the wafer battery out of the motherboard, put power cord back in and see if that would at least let it start up to windows (of course he said the date would be wacky) we haven't tried that yet. I am just a little leary of doing that. it is not a fix but a way to get around the problem at least until we can figure out what happened.  What do you think of that Carbon dude?

          Thank you so much

As far as, reinstalling XP I don't have disks the hard drive is partitioned.  I have already tried that anyway and it didn't fix the problem.  Which is one reason the guy we talked to suggested the battery thing he is thinking it is hardware most likely not software.

Tot start with, you should have two different topics, each for one computer. This is confusing.
