hard drive
« on: October 18, 2008, 10:24:33 PM »
I got a error message on a pc Xp home.[ file missing win32 ] this is on a Dell desk top pc with 1 sata drive. Tried going into safe mode with no luck, tried booting with the XP disc & no luck. What i would like to know if i take th drive out of the pc and put in another PC as a 2nd drive {slave] would i be able to read the drive or would i get the same message as before on the other PC? What are my options? would it be advisable to use the same PC and put in a new SATA drive and install windows and use the existing drive that has the missing win 32 pblm. as a slave and be able to read the drive without a pblm?

The hard drive should have nothing to do with the inability to boot to a disk.
Did you change your boot order in BIOS?
Can you hear the disk spin in the drive?

If it is hooked up on another working machine on SATA connector2 or higher (on the MBoard ) it will be treated like a slave and you should be able to see all the data there and backup/burn to your heart's content...
