    Technology Names
    « on: October 22, 2008, 05:50:20 PM »
Well, no doubt there's at least one other nutter out there who names their technology. (Call me weird, it's what I do for a living). So, what's yours called?

    So... I better share:

    - My old XP machine: Cyril (First name that came into my head when XP setup asked me "Name of computer:", because I hate the default names)
    - The Vista Box: Mister Vista (for obvious reasons)
    - The PVR: MyChael (for it's a MyStar from Austar, the PayTV company that we get)
    - The washiong Machine: Frank (my mother named it. I call it "washing machine")
    And the weirdest one yet:
    - Vaccumm Cleaner: Donny (Dyson).
That's Peedy over there in my avatar, playing psychiatrist. Peedy (C) Microsoft, not me. Although I do like him!

My primary home pc is Entropy.
      My home server is Overlord.
My laptop is Fujitsu.  (Can you figure that one out?)
My work PC is NVIC666.  (NVIC is my employer and necessary for the company naming convention.  666 because it IS the beast!  Mwaa ha ha ha!)
My previous work PC was NVIC420 because whoever built the thing had to be high.
Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

Too many to list here but most of them contain "hope", "CH" and/or "computerhope" in them, e.g. hope1, hope2, laptophope, etc. Apparently I'm not as creative as Eg0Death when it comes to names. :)

      Good post idea DouglasC. :)

My old XP machine is commonly called Liverscuit the Insane One.  ;D

My list has many names like Bubba, which in German means boy.

The boy's name Bubba \b(ub)-ba\ is of German origin, and its meaning is "boy". More commonly a nickname, usually for someone rather large. In American slang, it can also mean "brother".

My given name is Benjamin Beauford Blue, but people call me "Bubba". Just like one o' them ol' redneck boys; can you believe that?

let's see, my old 350 Mhz machine I named FASTLORD because it was just that compared to my 12 mhz 286.

My current machine is called GIGATRON, my router is named GIGAROUTER, my hard disks are labeled BOOTDISK and BIGDISK respectively, (and I also have one called BIGGERDISK (which is strangely smaller the BIGDISK... figures) one labelled DA*NDISK since I accidentally flashed it with CD burner firmware and it's capacity was reduced by half and its data was garbled, and various other named drives.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

I always name my computers Murgatroyd7.  My iPod Shuffle is also named this, and so is my cell phone (last one was Pirate Cowboy).  I also have a few X-Box accounts with this name (ZombieToast on one).  It's sort of a tradition of mine.  In a similar fashion, I always use Action Hair Team for the career modes on Guitar Hero.

My two 4GB flashdrives are Lazy Lucy and...the other is...well, something racist and inappropriate for the forum.

My 500GB external drive is El Capitan.  I can't remember if my other drives even have names or not.

I had forgotten my router and didn't consider the names on my hard drives.  My router is ENTROPYGATE, the RAID volume is RAID0, 250GB drive is Oubliette, and the 750GB is Arcane Ossuary
Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?
