Windows keep opening at random, help.........
    « on: November 14, 2008, 11:31:55 PM »
A box opened up while I was on the computer, it said it was from Window Inrternet Explorer. It asked if I wanted to download a program called "Registry Defender Platinum V5" It said this program would find and fix any errors wrong with my pc and make it run faster. I downloaded it and now when I open my Internet Explorer random window pages keep opening up, I don't know where they are coming from, they're random web sites pages. I X out of them and 2 minutes later another will open. Can anyone tell me how to get this to stop.  Thanks.............

Sounds like you need an anti-virus like Norton or Mcaffe....

Follow the steps that BRONI has given you.

Secondly, you've been had. Do not download any program that just appears out of the blue. Your computer is now infected. If your not sure of the source of anything do not open or download it, this includes e-mails.

I could clean your computer if you gave me all your bank details ( this is a joke, of course)

I already have McAfee installed. Ran a full scan and it shows nothing is wrong. I also have a Firewall in my McAfee and a Windows Firewall. Do I need both Firewalls running?

All the firewalls in the world cannot protect you from trojan horses of this sort especially. A program which, when launched, likely gains access through your firewall via the guise of "updates" when in fact is is a trojan downloader...

Most people typically have only one software firewall.

Your McAfee one would be the best out of the two.

Folowing BRONI's advice is your best bet of cleaning your PC.

You can tell when a website looks dangerous, such as a youtube fake telling you that you need a new player or codec to play the 'funny video', and it happens to be called run.exe or something familiar.
