CD ROM drives not working
« on: April 28, 2004, 09:43:58 PM »
Both my disk drives do not work any more. They used to read disks automatically, but now they dont read any at all. When ever I try to access it through "My Computer" a screen pops up and tells me the drive is inaccessable and the device is not ready. I really dont know anything  about computers so any help is appreciated.thx.

If this is winxp try this control panel/administrative tools/services/shell hardware detection/return this service to automatic.

start/run/regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Services\Cdrom
AutoRun = 1 --------------have a look at this link for more info http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330135&Product=winxp>

I dont really think it is a problem with the auto play. When I put a disk into either the E or D drive it spins and all that, but wont do anything else. Then when I slect the drive the same thing happens: a window pops up saying "E or D drive is inaccessable. The device is not ready." ???
