Need more space in D drive
« on: February 15, 2009, 03:47:57 PM »
I am running Windows Vista on an E Machine.  My "D" drive has 8.36 GB but only 1.3 is free. The "D" drive has only 3 files in it:   BOB-PC, Recovery, and MediaID.bin.  When I open the Recovery file it has a message "do not delete or alter". When I open the MediaID.bin file the message is "windows can not open this file".  When I open the BOB-PC file it has only 2 back up files which I don't want to delete.  In the past I have had more free space than 1.3 GB so I know more is available.  I try to keep everything clean by running CCleaner and my security sweeps often.  Can you suggest how to get more free space in "D" drive.  You have given me a lot of help in the past for which I thank you very much.  Bob

D drive is your recovery partition, and you have no business to go there at all.

Several months ago I had a problem (I don't remember what the problem was) but the "D" drive was so full something I was trying to run would not run.  Someway (I don't know how) the "D" drive was freed of space and everything was fine.  The free space in the "D" drive is down to 10%.  So far everything is OK but if I run any more back ups I am afraid I will over load the "D" drive.  Does this sound reasonable and if so how do I cure problem?  Thanks   Bob

don't back up to drive D:. backupp to an external hard drive. As broni said there is no reason to use D: drive for anything unless your are performing a system recovery.

Hi,

How do I create my space on my "D" drive so my weekly backups can proceed?

One more time...
Drive D is your recovery partition, which you shouldn't touch at all. Leave it alone. You may need it, if your computer crashes one day.
Put your backups somewhere else.
That's the best, I can explain.
DO NOT touch D drive!

hmmm...."bobh" was the OP...

Abnir- please create a new topic regarding your problem. Broni is easily confused. LOL

of course if your D: drive is also a recovery partition the advice still applies.

Code: [Select]
FOR N=1 to 10
SAY "DO NOT touch D drive!"
NEXT

Hard drives are now chapter than ever.
You can find a refurbished 40GB SATA for about $25.
If you make incremental backups you can get a lot on 40GB.
If you have some very old stuff, put  it on DVD-R.  8)

I migrated your code to VB6, LOL

Code: [Select]
For each Member in CH.Members
If Member.Drives("D").IsRecovery And member.currentcomplaint Is Drive Then
Msgbox "Do not touch drive D," & Member.UserName
   End If
Next Member

What chapter? ;D

I believe this month's theme was "Cleanup: getting rid of the hair" or something.  ;D
