I just had my computer worked on, replacing the motherboard n the proccesor. but now when i turn it on it just says 'boot from cd: disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter' can someone tell me what it means or how to fix it?

what it means is that your Boot Sequence is CD drive first for boot.

and you should insert your System disk(the installation disk, e.g. Windows 2000 installation disk) to boot.

please tell your Brand of your rig and the model of your rig.

      Hope this Helps

Thats why Bill Gates created the Windows NT Family.

If you just replaced the board, then you will need to reinstall your operating system (windows).

If he replaced the board, he should have at least told you, that you were going to have to reinstall windows.

Did you pay him for this?

Personally, I would take it back to the person who "fixed" it. I would either ask for a refund or demand that he fix it right!

If he refuses, then we're here to help you.

where did we gather that the motherboard was replaced? I don't believe motherboards come in 512MB and 1024MB... that owuld be memory.

Just don't go over there with a nasty attitude. It sounds like this guy is still learning. Just calmly explain the situation and I'm sure he will help you out.

Tell him that you were advised that the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL for short) that was on your hard drive is refusing to recognize the new board.

If he does a bit of reseach he will realize that windows need to be installed.

Tell him that he can use a Linux live disk to rescue the data from the old hard drive.

If he refuses, then we're here to help you.
