Added dvd, now wont work right

I added a dvd to my computer. I think I may have mixed the lines up somehow. When I try to access certain programs(like disk cleanup), it takes several minutes for the program to appear. If anyone has an illustration of how the connections slave, master, 2nd slave or whatever. please help!!! :-/
