How to delete browsing history completely/index.dat..?
    « on: April 29, 2009, 09:31:10 AM »
    Hello !!
I wanna know how to delete index.dat files  that are used by Internet Explorer to store our Internet history, cache, cookies & other information about our Internet browsing activity. I want to delete that manually without installing any kind of software and without causing any harm to my computer.

I read somewhere that it can be done by an easy way (maybe in command prompt) so plz tell me how to do it, so that even an expert can't find that files.

Pls help me ASAP as i am in a bit hurry.

Trying to hide something from some one are we?

In Internet Explorer do the following

    Click "Tools"
    Click "Internet Options"

You now see a boxes for "Delete Cookies", "Delete Files", & "Clear History" Click on all three and there you go.

Yeah trying to make it possible. ::)

No man not the cookies, history and all that, the method you have suggested is only for the temporary files, i follow the procedure that you're talking about. But what i am asking is for the index.dat files which can reveal our whole browsing history even after we delete the temporary files. hope you got it.

Rolling your eyes and using sarcasm is a sure way to get a quick response. Probably not the one you want though.

If you are in such a hurry, use Google.  I did and found several articles.

stop using IE and switch over to FF, then under "Tools" ya can set it to clear all this stuff when ya close FF

deleting index.dat files can easily be facilitated through deletion of the index.dat files.

Unless you format and re-install there's nothing more that can be done.
