Some websites don't seem to load right or at all
« on: May 07, 2009, 11:17:54 AM »
Not sure what is wrong. I have so many problems with sites not wanting to load at all or sometimes when they load, like Kookeys website is one I'm having alot of problems with, it has like a plain dark blue section in the middle of the screen.
The url for the site is www.kookeys.com
Sometimes I get as far as a page that just keeps saying Loading...This may take a few moments-- but it will be worth the wait!
I tried to contact the people at the site and I don't think they even read my email because of the response I got back. I think they just sent out one of those form letters that they send to anyone who writes.
I've tried so many things like clearing the cache, cookies, all that stuff.

Why is it in Web design section?

What browser, version do you use?
Did you try different browser?

Mozilla the newest version my mom downloaded it on her computer not long ago. Her Internet Explorer doesn't work anymore due to hacking messing it up and we don't know how to fix it.
I can't get the site to work right on my computer either and just got rid of Mozilla on my computer due to it getting hacked. So, I have the latest version of Internet Explorer on my computer same version my mom has on hers.

Shockwave seems to be working. Other sites I go to like Webkinz uses it and seems to work there ok.
It says Installation Complete when I go to the site you put.

When you hover the mouse over "See" button, can you see animation in both cases (Flash, and Shockwave)?

Is something suppose to be actually moving or show up words? When I put the mouse over the See button on the top one it says at the top Installation complete and then in the box itself it says See Director and Shockwave Content Showcase.
Then on the bottom one the it also says Installation compete and in the box it says See Macromedia Flash Showcase.
The only other thing I notice is a create button on both, but if I put the mouse over create, one of the icons it says buy. So, like we would need to buy something?

Not sure why it is working again. We did get a different version of Flashplayer right before it started working because of another site I go on to play games Candystand that stopped working and had a message about getting Flashplayer 10.
Since this is my mom's computer one thing is I have to wait until she is around until I change anything. She doesn't understand computer stuff to good and due to all the problems we keep having with bad advice people given us in the past, gets scared that changing things will cause more problems and stuff. Like some lady at Compaq said to do an FDisk and that it wouldn't erase anything, and it did erase all my stuff. I had asked her several times do I need to back things up and she kept saying no.
We both have Dell computers though now, and our isp is Bellsouth which is now At&t.

Also, what are all the numbers in the address? How exactly did you find those numbers? I'd like to understand all this computer stuff better. I really enjoy using the computer. Due to my health I have alot of disablities and can't get out of the house much. So, helps me to have something to do.
When I try to go there it changes to this in the address bar http://kookeys.com/index2.htm

I also was wondering, how exactly do I backup stuff from my sites on like Kookeys and Webkinz? Like pictures of my rooms and stuff?

I have no clue. Do they have any forum, you can ask?

Internet works by numbers. Every site has an IP address (numeric address), which looks like 70.84.166.196. Then your computer translates those numbers to words: http://70.84.166.196 to http://www.kookeys.com
There are different ways to find web page numeric address. I use Firefox add-on, ShowIP: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/590

if nobody's mentioned already, try resetting internet explorer ....... i don't remember about ie6 since that's really old, but you can do it for ie7 or ie8 if you're onto that.

so are we suppose to go to websites by typing in their ip address  then? I don't know any of them. I thought we just type in the url like www.kookeys.com
or www.webkinz.com
www.computerhope.com
is how I always get to websites. I have no idea how to find out ip addresses. Where do you click to find it?

How would we reset Internet Explorer? Are there some instructions on how to do that?
If we reset it, do we have to do anything else like setup our ISP stuff again somehow?

Yes, you want to use numeric address only for troubleshooting purposes. Normally, you don't have to worry about it. Computer does it for you.

I explained in my previous reply how to find out web site's IP address.
Another way is to use "ping" command, by using cmd:

or, go to: http://whois.domaintools.com/, type in www.google.com, and it'll tell you what IP address is.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 --> read this help page from microsoft's website on how to reset internet explorer, resetting internet explorer is supposed to fix internet explorer in tthe event that it becomes unusable.

I don't even know how to do the ping command either.
I notice you said you only use the numeric address for troubleshooting. I don't even know how to do any troubleshooting since I'm not a computer technician.
I read the last post where you said you explained how to find the ip address, and I don't understand what you said to do there. I tried to figure out what you mean about using Firefox addon thing. But how do I get to that section of the browser? Is it under file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, help?

Yes on my mom's computer.
On mine we just got rid of it due to hacking causing it to be all messed up. A friend of mine is helping me with wiping out the hard drive and will have to help me get everything set back up- the internet all that stuff. Which we had a terrible time getting things to work when switching to from dialup to DSL, and still do keep having problems, especially on my computer- the disc that my nephew put in to set it up had all this spyware and stuff on it. Plus also had a problem with the router thing keep popping up asking for username and password even though we were already online.

One thing I keep trying to understand, do both me and my mom have an ip address?
The router and modem are both hooked up to my computer and goes out to my mom's.

Then, install ShowIP: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/590 add-on. It'll show an IP address of every page, you're on.

It's not working right, and I'm scared to do anything else since this is my mom's computer. She is scared about hacking since we keep having so many problems and this is what happens- It keeps saying something about Malicious software can damage your computer or violate your privacy. It also says Author not verified.
Is there a way to find out it we maybe already have a way to do this without installing anything at all?
We keep having so many problems trying to install things. I even keep trying to install some software on my computer so I don't have to keep putting in the cd everytime I want to use this one thing to create greeting cards, and can't seem to get it to install the stuff. I went to the setup on the cd but it doesn't seem to be installing it because everytime I take the disc out, it still needs the disc. So, I don't know why things don't work, even though I thought I followed instructions correctly on installing software.

I'm wondering if the reason this isn't working is maybe I already have this addon already because I do notice something at the bottom of the screen that says transferring data from 66.48.69.99...

I also noticed you said that you mainly only use the ip address numbers for troubleshooting. But what type of troubleshooting do you use it for is what I don't understand. Like what will it help you to determine the problem for?
This is the first time I ever heard of using the numbers to get to websites. I thought you just type in the url like www.kookeys.com stuff like that. It doesn't tell you to type in any numbers when it tells the website address.

Another question I have is that alot of times I have problems with the screen being cut off to where I can't view the whole page, and there is no way to scroll down because of no scroll bars on the sides or anything.
Probably has to do with some type of settings somewhere, but I don't know where or what to look for.

It all depends on how user likes it. Maybe IE8 doesn't have problem which is good, but ....

    I don't even have IE8.
We have Mozilla, and IE 7 which we don't use anymore on my mom's computer due to hacking messing it up and haven't found any repairman who fix it yet.
My computer had Mozilla but doesn't anymore due to hacking messing it up on, but has never worked right since beginning on both browsers on both computers.

Maybe you want to do a complete format and clean reinstall of windows, that's what I'd do at this point but I'm sure you're probably not going to do want to do that.,

Screen being cut off, first of all check your screen resolution, then play with the screen adjustments, usually through those buttons on your computer's monitor if they're there.

Over the years we have had several repairmen work on our computers and still having not much luck with things.
I keep trying to figure out what my screen resolution needs to be. I keep trying all different things. I also keep trying to figure out what do I need to have just for all the settings in all my programs- browsers- like font colors stuff like that. Is there somewhere that you can look to check as to what needs to have check marks by them under each tab, and also the numbers you need for like font size, and the name of fonts- Arial, stuff like that?
Some other things I keep having problems with too and would like to know is how exactly to install things? Whenever I try to install things, it doesn't seem to be working right because everytime I want to use the program, it keeps wanting me to put in the disc. There is this one thing I use called Microsoft Works to make greeting cards and other things with, and I have to put the disc in each time I want to use it.
I'm also in the process of trying to back things up(which I'm running into some problems with trying to do it) because of a friend of mine I found who is helping with wiping out the hard drive due to spyware, viruses all that stuff. We have AVG on both mine and mom's computer. The other thing too is that we can't unhook my computer from the modem and router all the way because if we do then my mom's computer can't connect to the internet at all. Another thing that keeps happening too is that ever since switching from dialup internet to DSL, my computer CPU usage keeps going up to 100% most times and freezing it up.

Although I haven't had problems with AVG, I'm hearing more people having computer problems with it so I switched out to AVAST!

So go install AVAST instead, the free version is fine! You just need to register on their website for a free key every 12 or so months so that the the AVAST program knows you're a home user.

Check out the post from this link having to do with malware fixing: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html

Then ask evilfantasy or broni or some other malware specialist for some help fixing your pc. Like I said, complete formatting of pc and fresh windows installation would solve all the software problems like browser not working or whatnot, but I think you don't want to go that route yet.
