    Connectivity issue....
    « on: June 16, 2009, 12:45:59 PM »
Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably for about a month or so I have not been able to access the internet on my home laptop(runs on XP).  It was working fine one night and the next day it stopped working.  When I try getting into IE or Firefox it just says 'waiting for....' and the page never loads. Initially when this started happening it would work intermittently,  maybe 5-10 minutes then it would stop and a new page would not load.  Now it does not work even intermittently.

I do get the icon on the taskbar saying I'm connected to the network with a good signal and other computers are fine using the network.  I have tried renewing the ip address several times and it has never worked. I have also tried my computer on other wireless networks than mine at home and still no dice.

Anyone ever encounter this or have any ideas?

    1. Click Start>Run (Start>"Start search" in Vista).

    2. Type in (or copy and paste):

              cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$&notepad %temp%\$.$

          and press Enter.

    3. Notepad will open.

    4. Copy all text in Notepad ([Ctrl-A], then [Ctrl-C]), and then post it (paste = [Ctrl-V]) in your next reply.

      Broni-

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried what you said and Notepad does not open.  You know why this is?

      Go Start>Run, type in:
      cmd
      Click OK.

      At command prompt, type in:
      ping google.com
      Press Enter.

      Post the outcome.
