    Internet Taping?
    « on: July 08, 2009, 08:36:07 AM »
Hi I'm not sure where I should post this topic so I decided this category might be best.

Can some explain to me in layman's terms what is being talked about in these 2 videos:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iNJbiux3hI

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRMQvfuoTeI

If I get rid of all online profiles, emails and preform a system restore on a Window's Vista will that clear out all old information that it stored on the computer to avoid internet taping?

Edit: I noticed he said in the comments "The best was is to block your IP from the server or use a IP Gen." -- how do I do this?

That guy's voice annoys me so much I didn't bother watching the whole video.

All he is doing is explaining what an IP is. Wikipedia could explain it alot better, IMO.

When it comes down to it, you can't.

Well, if you'd watched the whole video, he explains "taping" near the end!
    Whatsamattaforu?   ;D

The term "taping" is used when the more proper term is "recording."  The claim is that a computer / laptop with built-in camera and audio can be accessed and used to record information, even when the camera is "off."  (I'm not sure I'm "buying" that.)

Whatsamattaforu? Okay LOL - I'm fairly new to computers basically and trying to understand a few things - so go easy on me guys.  :D

Maybe I've asked the question wrong or was looking at the wrong videos for some kind of explanation.
If someone has the IP addy from my computer can they send 'packets' to gain your computer information?
Can simply doing a system restore on a computer wipe that out?

Zero, my apologies -- I modified my previous post to show that I was "aiming" my comment back to kpac.

I don't have the network expertise to answer your questions with authority.  HERE is some basic information about IP's from Wikipedia.  It's a little long.

The videos you watched were a good start.  I suggest seeking other videos by other makers, just to see if that helps, too.

Wikipedia can answer ALL your questions. Just use the search box on the right of any Wiki page. ;)

Agreed; however, some might prefer the video format.  I usually prefer to read, so places like wiki are usually my first stop.

Just remember that no matter how many "blocks" you put in place, if someone (law enforcement) is tracking you then each block is just another hurdle for them to jump. The Internet by it's very nature is not private. Just the opposite.

Law enforcement? I'm trying to learn more about basic hackers LOL - I've seen several videos and read articles and when I saw his videos it raised questions because that's the first I ever heard of 'internet tapping'

I think this might be a much better place for information:

One hurdle that would stop them (except physically) would be to simply disconnect the cord.

Anyway, why the need to stop them? Just install a good firewall. No need to do a system restore or anything like that. If you're using Windows Firewall, scrap it. Download and install Comodo.

I mention law enforcement because they are the only ones who legally can use such tools and methods.
