I've asked this everywhere else, and no one could help me
    « on: September 16, 2009, 03:08:10 AM »
Basically, certain web pages are not working for me, and neither are certain flash based videos, especially youtube.com.  At first it was their videos that wouldn't load for me.  It was just a black screen, but now I cannot access the site at all.  I type in the URL, and nothing else happens.
I have tried four different browsers, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and Google Chrome, but the problem is the same with all.  I even downloaded older versions of all of them.
I have updated flash, uninstalled and reinstalled it.  Downloaded older versions.
Running several different scans for virus', spyware and malware.
I have stopped several processes from using my RAM.
I was told that my Internet speed is more than enough to play videos.
I have disabled firewall, pop-up blocker and anti-virus.
    Defragmented.
Installed different softwares that were supposed to speed things up.
    Turned off the web accelerator.
    Did a full system recovery.
    Re-programed my modem.
    Spent hours researching this problem.
I asked this question on almost every computer help site, but every tells me to do the same things that I listed above that I have tried.
I am desperate, and becoming more and more frustrated with each passing day.   :||x
It's been like this for two weeks, but has gone way down hill in the past four days.
I'm using XP if that's of importance.
Any tips or suggestions that you can give me, even if they're a long shot, I would greatly appreciate it.
Money's tight, so hiring a repair man or buying a new computer isn't an option, so I'm very worried that this problem cannot be fixed.
Actually, there are other unrelated problems that I will probably post in another section on this site at another time.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and to hopefully help me out.

What services have you disabled ? ?
There are many that are interdependent on each other...

Also are you running a firewall ? ?
What type of connection is this ? ?
And what scans have you ran ? ?  (important )

I have DSL at a download speed of 6.111 mbps.
      I'm using zone alarm.
I don't think that the processes that I've disabled have anything to do with the problem because when I did a full system recovery.  As soon as I established an Internet connection, I immediately went to see if the problem had been resolved, but it hadn't, and all of the processes were running at the time with a different firewall.
      Scans?
      Ad-aware
      Hijackthis
      Spybot
      Malwarebytes
A few other ones that I can't think of at the moment.
I have used a few things to clean up my registry.

      Check your firewall exceptions...
You need an Anti-Virus app...Avast and Avira both have a good FREE version.
You still need to list the disabled services as your explanation still does not rule them out as the culprit...

      Stay away from registry cleaners...

I have enabled every single stopped service.
Tried the computer in safe mode with networking, and youtube videos still did not load.
        I am using avast.
        Have no other computer.
The web pages seem to be loading a lot better today, but still the video problem persist.
I was suggested somewhere else to call my ISP.
I did, but they were unable to help me because it is a problem with my computer.
        This is driving me crazy!

        Uninstall Flash, using this: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
        Install fresh copy.

well you can always just re-install the OS. That is if you have the disk.

              Run SFC.......

              You'll need your XP disk.....

Personally i think it's a disabled service...which sfc won't have a clue to fix as it doesn't restore services back to the original...

              Download, and install ServiWin: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/serviwin.html
              Run it.
              Go View, click Services
              Go Actions, click Select All.
Go File, click Save Selected Items.
Name the file Services, and save it to known location.
Attach the file to your next reply.

I don't see any crucial service being disabled.
                Run sfc proposed by Karnac.

                Also...

                Download OTL to your Desktop.

                    * Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
                    * Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

                      netsvcs
                      %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
                      %systemroot%\system32\eventlog.dll
                      %systemroot%\system32\scecli.dll
                      %systemroot%\netlogon.dll
                      %systemroot%\system32\cngaudit.dll
                      %systemroot%\system32\sceclt.dll
                      %systemroot%\ntelogon.dll
                      %systemroot%\system32\logevent.dll

                    * Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

                • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows: OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
                • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them back here.
Since those are pretty big files, you can attach them, if you wish.
