    Ubuntu help
    « on: October 11, 2009, 01:27:56 PM »
Bit of background: Just finished building my computer and surprisingly it booted. Now I've been told to check temperatures in BIOS then I'm assuming I can install an OS.

I've decided to install ubuntu. Now I have a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz Socket 775 1066MHz 8MB (2x4MB(4MB per core pair)) L2 Cache OEM Processor. First I downloaded ubuntu for 32bit then I realised I can use a 64bit version so I downloaded it but now it says on the downloaded file: ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64. Thing is I have an intel processor? It's that or ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386 but im assuming that will only use 32bit. So which do I use? Also will Ubuntu support multiple cores? Also it worth downloading the new beta instead? Will probably use Windows 7 when it gets released anyway. (22nd Oct)

EDIT: Found out its only called ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64 because AMD were the first to create a 64bit processor. Installed it and works fine.
