    Unwanted WinZip....
    « on: January 12, 2010, 03:44:01 AM »
It seems many attached files go straight into my PC via WinZip, which I definitely do NOT want to buy. How can I get a free program to which all downloaded attached files will automatically be directed into?

I would suggest something called 7-Zip, it's free.

Thanks. I downloaded it, but the problem persists. The attachment is clearly a Winzip attachment file(I see the Winzip lock), so no matter what unlock program I have, I can't unlock it from WinZip. Unless someone tells me how to do it. All I can do is ask the person who sent it to use another program, or is the problem at my end?

Right click any zip file > Open with > Choose Default Program. Choose 7-Zip, and make sure the checkbox is checked to "Always use this programs to open this type of file", or something like that.

I wish I had those choices. After right clicking, I get
Open link in new tab, in new window, in incognito window, Save link as....or Copy link address. What next?

I meant in your documents or somewhere else on your PC, not in the web browser.

I'm really confused now. I did go back to Windows XP and found the WinZip file, right-clicked it and Opened With (had 2 choices: Choose Program or C:Program Files\.....7-zip. I clicked on both and couldn't get anywhere. Re the C:...7-zip, I got these choices: Open archives,Extract files, Extract Here, Extract to 2010-01-12(*1)\,Test archive, add to archive, Compress and email,Add to "2010.....7z", Compress to "2010...7Z and email, Add to "2010.....zip",Comprise to "2010...and email....l

Choose Program...then clik the drop down bar at the bottom...find7Zip and point it to it...
Check "always use this program to open these files" and Exit...
