Updated: 09/12/2023 by Computer Hope

Short for enhanced small disk interface, ESDI is an early interface found on IBM high-end PS/2 computers for hard drives, tape drives, and diskette drives. ESDI was capable of transferring data at about 1 MB to 3 MB a second.

Today, ESDI is outdated by storage interfaces such as IDE (integrated drive electronics), EIDE (enhanced integrated drive electronics), and SCSI (small computer system interface).
