Gravatar (short for globally recognized avatar) is an online service that allows users to have a single avatar which follows and identifies them globally on multiple websites. The service allows users to upload an avatar with a maximum size of 2048 pixels wide (although displayed at a size of 80 by 80 pixels) which is tied to the users e-mail address. When users post a message on blogging or forum sites that support the Gravatar plugin, the user's registered avatar, their Gravatar, is displayed automatically.
