NPAC
Short for Number Portability Administration Center, the NPAC is a system and database used in the telecommunications industry. Essentially, the NPAC ensures that calls and messages are sent to the correct network based on the phone number's location, carrier, and other relevant information.
Part of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), NPAC's main function is to facilitate number portability, which is the ability for customers to switch service providers and keep their existing phone number. Number portability is increasingly important in today's interconnected world as phone numbers are often tied to accounts and services beyond voice, like 2FA (two-factor authentication).
