Issue

Missing Desktop Network icon.

Additional information

Although each of the versions of Microsoft Windows have a different name for the network icon, this document applies to the below missing icons.

  • Network Neighborhood
  • My Network Places
  • Dial-Up Networking

Solution

  1. Right click on the Desktop and click Properties.
  2. In the Display Properties window click the Desktop tab.
  3. Click the Customize Desktop button.
  4. Check the My Network Places checkbox and click Ok.

or

  1. Open TweakUI.
  2. In TweakUI open the Desktop tab category.
  3. Under Desktop, check the checkbox for the network icon you wish to be displayed on the desktop.
  4. Once checked, close out of TweakUI and reboot the computer.
