Avatar

  1. Also known as the root, admin, or administrator, avatar is a term used to describe a super user in a Unix environment. Once logged on, this user is capable of going anywhere and doing anything on the computer. 
  2. Sometimes abbreviated as AV, an avatar is an icon or digital image used to represent one's self in an on-line discussion such as a chat room or a message board.
