Task switching

Term used to describe the process of switching between tasks currently running on the computer without affecting any of the tasks. For example, a user may have an Internet browser task and need to switch to his or her word processor task. Users running Microsoft Windows are able to do this by pressing "ALT + TAB" on their keyboard.
