Users can configure Thunderbird to retrieve e-mails from another provider using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) or POP3 and send e-mails using SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol). Thunderbird supports newsgroups, chat, and news feeds. It also comes with features like junk mail filtering, cross-platform support, and can utilize extensions and themes.
