    Security Settings prevent from downloading
    « on: January 03, 2006, 03:44:55 PM »
I'm using Windows XP Pro and IE 6.

Whenever I try to open an URL like http://navidadlae.terra/temp/listaA3.pdf I got the message "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded".

I have revised, one by one, all my IE Security Settings, have changed the ones I suspect have anything to do with that but no results at all.

My only solution has been asking DAP (Download Acceleration Program) to download such and URL, but I want to figure aout why I cannot open it in the normal way.

The link you put up only gives me...

          The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
          Bla, Bla, Bla.

          Is it a valid link?

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

Sorry, my fault! The correct one is this:

              http://navidadlae.terra.es/temp/listaA3.pdf

It contains a PDF documet with the full result of Spain National Xmas Lottery. I only could see it giving the URL to DAP for it to open, but I think something is wrong because it must open with the necessary clicks only.

At first I got the same message as you but then I added *.navidadlae.terra.es to my trusted sites and it's all good.
My IE is locked down very tightly. :)

not all programs can be downloaded with download accelerator plus have you tried right clicking the file and use save as? Have you gone to download accelerator and select it as not a default for download rather let you choose if you want to regular or download accelerator to download it. Some sites have anti-leech programs in them. Is your adobe acrobat reader up to date?

                  Thanks.

I tried including that  http://navidadlae.terra in my trusted sites but no way, same result.

I do not want to use DAP for that; I want that URL to open with the double click like all others. Person who sent it to me from Spain open it that way. Why I cannot? And same happens in my wife's PC.

My IE is in default settings except for scripts that are in prompt, and my Acrobat Reader 5 is updated.

What version of IE are you using?

PDF Acrobat  reader 7.0 is  allready out, 5.0 is rather outdated.

As for people not being able to open it; It loads fine in a tab using Firefox V1.5.

I cant open that link. All I can tell you is with download accelerator it is hard to open websites on a new window especially if it thinks that it is a file that needs to be downloaded from the computer instead of opening it in the new window. That is why I keep the let me choose option from DAP. Sometimes you need to run regular instead of accelerated. If you do regular it will open it the regular way. With Accelerated it will download it as a file and when you open it it will be usless

                    There is no such site.

Remove the verification tick and add "*.navidadlae.terra.es" including the * but excluding the ""

Doing as Fed suggested in his first post should make that action unnecessary.

Are you certain you have pressed APPLY and OK?

You must reset each security zone individually otherwise it will not work.

I just put the *.navidadlae.terra.es as "allowed" in my private sites and it does not work either. However, I was angry about that and wanting to remove one specific allowed entry I clicked on "Remove All" and for sure all entries, blocked ad allowed, dissapeared!. Now what? I do not know what to expect now out of that wrong action.

Yes, I'm certain I have pressed APPLY and OK after modifying settings, and I have reseted each security zone individually. I just asked for help because I had done everything in IE security without result.

However, your mention to Acrobat Reader rang a bell. I open Acrobat Reader, gave it the rebel URL and eureka!, it worked. I maybe have to upgrade to version 7.

                      Thanks to you ALL!

Nice it worked. I am using Firefox and when I tried http://navidadlae.terra.es/temp/listaA3.pdf it worked fine and opened in Acrobat Reader. You better pass to Firefox  ;)
I was just wondering with what will all this end :)
