Accessing startup tray in Windows XP Home Edition
« on: May 02, 2006, 10:11:16 PM »
Using windows xp how do I access the programs that run automatically at start up?
I'm sure I have 10 or 15 little programs that have added themselves to the startup tray.

Open those programs and look for a configuration setting that allows you to set it to NOT launch during startup.  Another option is to run msconfig (Start, Run, msconfig), select the Startup tab, locate a program and uncheck the box next to it.   Click Apply and OK.

Here are two good sources of info on processes you might see running when you open Windows Task Manager: WinTasks Process Library, and Task List Programs - AnswersThatWork's famous Database of ....  They explain what the process does and give guidance on whether the process can safely be disabled, etc.
