webcam does not work
« on: April 15, 2007, 08:15:00 AM »
i've got a webcam from singapore about a year ago, know nothing about what model etc, but now my sister is ordering me to install it on her computer, after ruining the installation disks. is there anyway that i can fix that?

p.s.    sorry if this is the wrong subject and it needs to go under drivers, it just seemed right to me because it is about a hard ware problem that i am  having

thank you for all help given, wether it works or not :)

Just type the serial number or name in Google + drivers and you'll be fine.

well see, there's a problem with that. i got it about a year ago and threw the box out, and it says nothing on the actual webcam, and the installation cd only says

PC CAMERA
Installation Disk

Installation:
Insert this CD into CD-ROM drive
and follow on-screen instructions

Try the following:

  • Hook it up and see if Windows Update can find any drivers for it (Use the 'advanced' search)
  • Hook it up and see if System Information for Windows (Click) can find the name of the webcam for you. You'll need to do some digging, though.

Would there possibly be a Help file on this CD or something with a .txt extension ? ?

How badly is the CD ruined?  Is it just scratched up or is it broken?  If it's just scratches we're talking about here, there's a chance you could get at least a readme file off of it.  Maybe even use a data recovery program if needed.  And, of course, if this is the case, there's the option of resurfacing the CD, depending on how bad it is.

If the CD is too badly damaged...are there any labels/markings anywhere on the webcam that you may have overlooked?  What about a copyright etched into the bottom?  Maybe a sticker with the FCC ID on it?  Considering its origins, these may be a stretch.

Odd...  Did these CD's ever work?  Have you tried accessing them with all hidden files viewable?  Sorry if it seems like I'm grasping at straws here, but there's just so little to work with.  Unforutunately, there aren't any universal webcams drivers (there's one I know of for Mac, but it's specific to about three or four brands...which isn't very universal), so you may end up having to get a new webcam.  I have the Creative Instant, which is pretty cheap and is good for the price.

Other than that, I'm really not sure what we can do for you here.  But stick around and maybe someone will have something else to suggest.

computer......  Unplug the Web Cams usb cable from the rear of the tower and look to see if there is a paper tag right near the USB connector .......
Many of those webCams put the make and model number on a tag there.

You might be ahead to get a proper web cam, hopefully with a recognizable brand and possibly even some support for it. This appears a fruitless endeavor.

there was no tag anywhere on the webcam or it's cord or connector or anywhere else....i'll see if dad can remember what brand it is when he gets home tonight, but there's not much hope for that.

Is THIS your webcam?  I'm a bit confused because that info says it's manufactured by Sabrent, but the part number is for Kinamax (Sabrent part numbers start with SBT).  If that's not your webcam, perhaps you can check the ones on Sabrent's site (they only have three).

Out of curiosity...what exactly did you search for to find this information?

      computer .......

Is this the driver your looking for ?

      http://www.kinamax.com/product/Drivers.htm

If this is the correct driver and it appears to match the model number you posted...... I would download the driver into a new folder that you will create on your desktop..... then extract it to the same folder. Now this part is important.......
Do not plug the webcam in at this time.......
      next.....
      Disable your internet connection.
      next
      Disable your Anti-Virus program.
      next
open the folder you D/L and extracted the driver into ..........
next ...... click on the setup icon to begin installing the driver.
During the install process, you may be asked to plug in the WebCam..... If you are, plug it into a USB2 port.......  you should see a message pop-up in the lower right corner ( by the clock) ...that windows has detected new hardware.......... and then a few seconds later, another pop-up to say that windows has installed the new device and that it is ready to use.
next ...... Enable the Anti-virus program.
next ...... Enable you Internet connection......
      That should do it.

the stuff i got was just a copy paste off the site that lurch gave me...the link to the sabrent site was already there, and as the webcam was made by singapore, it kind of makes sense to do that....

Not exactly where i would start a search for appropiate drivers for a hardware device...

On top of that the site you posted sabrent doesn't have anything matching your model # for that device...therefore they wouldn't have a driver for it.

If it's a USB cam it should not be hooked up when you install the software.
Try un-installing thru Add/Remove. Then power down and remove the device.
Disable your Anti-Virus program when you re-boot and then re-install the software. It will tell you when to hook up the device and finish installing...

Try re-installing it using the steps outlined...it's possible something might have been overlooked. Un-install the device in Device Manager first and remove any software that pertains to it in Add/Remove Programs.

when i followed the same steps with the other computer, i come up with an error message at the end of the installation phase, reading...

There was a problem installing this hardware:

An error occured during the installation of the device

The class installer has denied the request to install or

Click Finish to close the wizard.

does anybody have any idea what to do in that sort of situation? last computer i didn't even get that far, but i still want the rest of it there obviously. i need help  :'(
