    Folding @ Home Icon
    « on: June 24, 2007, 10:08:46 PM »
Think maybe it would be possible to put a Folding@Home icon by the profile button, that links to the team stats or the Folding@Home site?

Might make it a bit more wide-spread, and be a way to show off your folding stats.

    Just a thought.

Hmm, thats not a bad idea

It could be placed in the banner, or under the Users Display Time and Username, or on the bottom of the page

    I guess it just depends

It would be useful, but I don't see a mod anywhere to enable this so I don't know if it would be possible.

This is a great idea, but unfortunately not sure exactly how it could be done and I'm sure if available its something that would take a lot of work. I'll add it to the success post of things that could be done.

For a temporary solution I could add a custom title, which would appear under your user name. If you or any of the Folding@Home members would like to have this done I'd be more than happy to add that. Unfortunately the title can't be a link so wouldn't really accomplish too much, but may spice up some additional interest.  :-\

I do believe Overclock.net has such an icon for members of their team, when you click it it brings up a window that shows you that users stats.

Not sure what their fourms are written in though.

It seems that Folding@Home must have some sort of code available for taking the numbers and placing them in any format on your website...

      (Probably PHP)

Perhaps Folding@Home has documentation on this?

Looks like it's vBulletin, I'm sure SMF has something similar. This request is on the to-do list and I'll see if I can get it added sometime in the future.

In the to-do list, I spotted a few things.

          * FAQ wiki still has numerous small issues such as folders/icons being same icon, posts with more than one page not being displayed, creator of document, etc. Example of problem doc:  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,25982.html - wiki template not used any more, so not such a problem

          * Add Skype and other options to available contacts - http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,32942.0.html - The Skype mod I mentioned did not work for me, it wouldn't install.  However, the Xfire field mod has been up and running for a while.  Only issue I have is that it isn't with the rest of the contacts options, like MSN Messenger, in the profile when the user is editing it, it's near the bottom.  Still displays properly in the profile in threads though.

          * FAQ wiki template should have who originally created a post and see if can separate child boards from posts - Wiki template not used any more, as above in reference to wiki issues

Just wanted to mention these things, I didn't know there was a to-do list, or I had forgotten it.
Wanted to add my thoughts on a few of these items, maybe they help and maybe not.

Thanks for the above suggestions Calum. You're right about the Wiki template, although I think it would be still nice to have so I moved the two wiki FAQ's you mentioned into a section of their own on the todo list. On the Skype issue I'll create a link to this post so when I'm working on that I'll know to give Xfire a try.

It's good when there's more than one SMF admin on a site.
Later today'm going to look at some more Skype and Xfire mods, and also try to figure out why I can't upgrade SMF (1.1.3 has been out for a while).

Hey look at me bumping this old topic up. Well over a year later and got this marked off the list. ;)
