    Most Scary/Creepy/Intense game
    « on: May 14, 2008, 02:00:38 PM »
I thought this would be a intersting poll to see which games out there put you on the edge of fear.  You know the ones where something made you hit the fire key/button trying to protect your self from what ever the heck it was that came around the corner.  Which one was an absolute creepfest when you played without the lights on during a stormy night. Be prepared to backup your answer... :)

For me it was the Solrac in Corridor 7.  As old as the game was the sudden appearance of the Solrac at random times always made me freak and accidentally waste much needed ammo shooting at nothing.

Don't know what I speak of?  go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corridor_7

Look up Solrac, under the Aliens section.

      you havent voted yet.

i chose doom3 beacause i liked? how you walk into a room and the power goes out and you hear noises all around you (surround sound) and you see zombies walking in front of dim lit exits.

i i had the torch button allocated to something like "j" that did not help at all :(

limit ammunition made things worse because in a panic to kill wat ever is lurking in the dark you arent always as accurate :D

But as soon as you get a chainsaw you just sprint thru the dark slashing at whatever moves.

      power tools ftw

Doom 3 was definitely jumpy, and with the graphics set to highest, it enhances the experience even more.
But i'd have to say the silent hill series has creeped me out more than any.
Especially playing in the dark, on a big tv. I'd just walk around a corner in a school with my flashlight, then it'd start flickering, and i'd get mauled by dogs. It was brilliant.

F.E.A.R.  with the little "crab/spider girl" scared the ever-loving snot out of me.  I almost gave birth...and I'm a guy.  Usually I'm a "replay" kind of person.  If I like the game,  I play it again.  Not with F.E.A.R.  -Shiver-

I'm not really into horror games since I'm a bit of a sissy when it comes to scary things. Anyway, the one that i did play scared the sh*t out of me at some point. RE4, when Leon picks up a card key for the refrigerator room, some kind of a walking dead body comes closer and closer. I believe they're called Regenerators. They used to be a pain in the a*s to kill unless you used a sniper rifle+infrared scope. Since then, I always get goosebumps when i get to that point.

Either that, or if you ever got your hand on the Thompson. Just spray the thing with bullets until you hit everything you needed to make it explode.  That was always fun :D

                    Nothing that's been released recently.

"I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" (1995) was creepy. It was based on a short story by the same name (1967) by Harlan Ellison. There was no real way to win, only to die heroically.

"The 7th Guest" (1992) was also a very scary game. Too bad the sequal, "The 11th Hour", sucked horribly.

Silent Hill 2 was so creepy, I put it in the freezer.

Shivers 2 was good, but I'm sure it would have trouble actually scaring anyone.  Still a great atmosphere, though.

the first Quake. The way I had it set up there wasn't any music, which differed from the other FPS games I had at the time, Duke 3D and Doom (scary in a "hey, quite biting me, you gosh-darn demon, that hurts slightly"). God knows how many times I had to re-do segments involving those bloody shamblers in Nightmare skill. I go around a corner expecting to pop a knight or two, and be greeted by a shambler:

Me: Die! you *censored* knights! hey wait a sec.

                      Shambler: roar.

Me: Eeek! die you demon spawn!

                      Shambler: hey.

                      Me: Run away!

Shambler: hey no fair I can't fit down that hallway

Me: ha that put you in your place. eat Nails!

Shambler: ack you have killed me.

                      Me: yay!

The shambler, baron of *censored*, and battlelord have got to be some of the most hated enemies (by me) in Quake,Doom, and Duke3d respectively.

"Quack shot" is "barney & friends" when compared to the demonic cartridge that is "Duck Hunt". You keep playing and playing, WHERE IS THE END! Save me from this wretched limbo that is duck hunt!

I tried to play Silent Hill on the Playstation, but it just gave me a headache and motion sickness. Something about the way the camera is in that game. Didn't find it all that scary though.

                              Probably F.E.A.R. for me.
Something about the music and the weird noises when "unknown transmission" comes up, and then all the dissolving ghosts and stuff . . . you know it's coming but it still scares the *censored* out of me.
Doom 3 didn't scare me whatsoever, and Doom 1 just makes me laugh.  It can get insanely hard at times though.

I couldn't agree with you more, although, I still have to stick with the Solroc in Corridor 7, maybe becuase I was a kid when I played it.  F.E.A.R, would be second on my list though.

There are much creepier games than those. How about realms of the haunting, sanitarium, and system shock 2?? How could you make a creepy game list and not include system shock 2???

Well, honestly, the poll was composed based off of top ten lists found on the internet.  I only browsed a couple but didn't see system shock 2 on any of them. Never played the game my self or heard of it. But, now that you mention it I am going to do my homework and look into it. :)

When I first got my ps2 and the disney madagascar game I was afraid to play the last level because I saw the lion on the level selection.  Come to think of it I never beat that game because I was afraid of that lion.
Anyways, I second system shock 2, and I'll jump on the bandwagon and say F.E.A.R.  Nobody mentioned Bloodshot:Condemned either which was scary in the "the lighting only lets me see a few feet in front of me and I've only got a toilet seat to beat zombie things down with." kind of way.
Oh and manhunt scared me too, this was before it was banned in the states for the records.  It wasn't really the game that scared me, but the thought that kids somewhere may end up wanting to emulate the things they saw in this game. (but then I realized kids aren't dumb and I'm trying to use the "grand theft auto" logic as to why some kids end up living in jail.)
Failure is not an option -- it comes bundled with Windows Vista.

The was one point that I was so freaked out (graphics highest, lights off, etc.) that some random noise (not even a zombie or anything) made me literally jump in my seat (pretty high, too) and involuntarily fire.  I was facing a wall, so had there BEEN a zombie, but involuntary finger-click would have done absolutely nothing except make a big hole in the wall...which it did.  I was ashamed of how scared I was.

"I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" (1995) was creepy. It was based on a short story by the same name (1967) by Harlan Ellison. There was no real way to win, only to die heroically.

Is "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" freeware?  Or can I buy it somewhere?

From the list, I would say Doom 3, followed by FEAR.  After playing a few minutes of it, I had to quit because I was so scared.  FEAR was scary, but in an awesome way.  They did a lot of creative stuff to be scary.

Myst scared me when I was younger.  Something about being on a deserted island, feeling like I was being watched.  Then the talking books freaked me out.

Now that I think about it, there was this moment when I was playing Paper Mario on the n64, just before Mario enters Forever Forest (chapter 3). A boo dressed like a butler suddenly appeared out of nowhere and screams BOO! I was 10 years old back then but it still scared the sh*t out of me.  :-X I turned off my n64 and was too scared to continue. Finally, after 3 months, I bravely entered the forest again and this time with my eyes closed, so I could continue my adventure when the butler boo appeared.  :P

I had just got the ladder to get to the second floor of the police station and I was introduced to the "Licker". He jumped down right in front of me and I nearly sh*t myself. I ended up using about 55% of my new mini-guns ammo on it to the point where I had pushed it back against the wall and was just filling it with lead.

"well, I guess I'll just go into this dark corridor, lit by a single 60 watt light bu... oh, never mind it just went out, Good thing I have my flashligh... well, nuts to that as well.

I mean, look! the sticker came off that says which way they go in!"
