A lot of people use the term Noob. From my understanding the meaning is someone that is new at something. So is the term Noob good or bad

i agree with ivy. literally it just means your new at something, which isnt a bad thing, but mainly it is used condescendingly, which makes it a bad thing.

I always thought noob was used to describe a person who didn't realize they kind of lacked in the experience department- like "I just Hax0red Windows so my background is different ROXOR!" type people.

I'd agree with BC_Programmer on this. I'd think when a player calls another player a noob they're telling that player that they have no skill and don't know what they're doing. So it's bad.

"Noob" is a variation on the term "newbie."

It's a term which holds the connotations people bring. We're all "newbies" at one time or another. (Some of us just seem to persist at it.

I just can't help but laugh at people who use that term like it's an insult. If there was a top ten list of words (slang or not) I'd like to see removed from the English language, this would be on it along with ur, l8r, l33t, cya, and pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoco niosis...

Just in case anyone is concerned, users with the rank of "newbie" on the forums (with 1-2 posts) is simply stating that the user is new and not the same thing as Noob.

Basically, it's a lung disease caused by breathing ultra-microscopic particles of volcanic silica. While the word is in many dictionaries, many people argue whether or not it's actually a word since:

1. Technically, it was made up by some people trying to win a contest.
2. It's a theoretical disease that doesn't actually exist.
