Phone with Built-In Projector

After years of speculation a phone with a built-in microprojector appears out of left field

http://www.popsci.com/gear-amp-gadgets/article/2009-01/first-cell-phone-built-projector

Cameras, MP3 players, Video Players, Games, Touch Screen, GPS, Wireless Internet, now a projector? Wow.
I still prefer just the ordinary phone..... I don't need any of the fancy gadgets, at least not now.

I agree, its all fun, but I prefer a normal phone. Calling, texting, basic communication. Though, I'd love to see what it cost to have that bulb replaced in that phone.

Apple is packing all of this technology into the iPhone and still making it affordable to consumers. Why is the Mac so high priced...

Anyway I would rather have seperate devices, GPS, MP3, phone etc. If the GPS or projector or whatever goes on the blink you loose EVERYTHING by sending it in to get fixed.

The iPhone isn't that great, I've got a friend that can vouch for that. He repairs phones part time for a living, he's sending me a busted up G2 to use as a MP3 'soon as he gets his hands on a G3 to toy with. The cellular radio is dead in it, but it works as an MP3, PDA, and instant messenger if I've got wireless access.

The iPhones have problems with the screens breaking easily, there cellular radios seem to go out too. They make a decent MP3/PDA, its basically an iPod touch with a cellular radio.

Bingo.

seriously, they put all these things together, it results in a messier interface, confusing controls, and general user confusion.

mother:"Oh, that's why, it was on Demon elimination mode."

presses button, laser goes across room turning visiting neighbor into a pile of dust.

Daughter: OH MY GOD!

Mother:"yes I know, must have set it to high. I only wanted to age him a few years."

I can see the commercials of the future too.

Introducing the new 500th iteration of the iPhone. with integrated GPS,Messaging, Internet, Voice mail, Digital Camera, and these new exciting features:

1. Rhubarb Seed sowing timer
2. Chocolate Milk dispenser (Milk sold separately. Chocolate too.)
3. demon repellent
4. PC user repellent

and last but not least:

5. Cold Campbells Tomato Soup dispenser... "You'll wish it was hot!"

lawl @ that last post BC.

I've heard of death by PSP, but never death by phone. Well, aside from lighting death by phone, shocking experience I'd say. Anyway, be warned, those PSP's have a lethal eject mechanism.

On a side note, I think there running out of names for these phones. My friend in florida has this phone called The Dare. Honestly, what the heck? The dare? Sounds like some craptastic lifetime drama movie about someone I've never heard of.

'Nother side note, Firefox wanted to replace craptastic with fantastic. Kinda funny, usually it never gets words that I make up that close to there opposites.

Do they still make those?  :o

Here are some more things to add:

  • Folded paper  FAX machine.
  • Coffee dispenser with StarBucks Brand Name.
  • Micro Laser to destroy foot fungus.
  • An external SFF floppy disk adapter only 1.2 by 1.4 by 2.5 inch, but will read standard 3.5 inch disks underwater.

Looks good but I wonder what the range (distance) is on it. If the projector only projects onto a surface from about a foot away I really don't see the purpose.

Guess you could see if the cat chases it around like those laser pointers... Laser pointers combined with most cats will provide hours of entertainment.

              FULL CIRCLE.
              We start with...
              Telephones with wires.
              Then simple wireless phones,
              then cell phones,
              text messages,
              camera phones,
              video phones,
              iPhones.
              Then the PROJECTOR PHONE!
At last a wirells device so advanced...

YOU CAN PLUG IT INTO THE WALL OUTLET!   ::)

notice how Netscape hasnt been update in a while ;)

Umm- that would be because the newer versions of netscape owned by AOL just used to same engine as one of the other browsers (I think it was gecko) except much stupider interface.

Although we all can thank Netscape for Javascript. They REALLY should have just called it livescript like they were going to, but no- they had to capitalize on the success of Java and thus cause complete confusion for eternity.

oh well AOL, is basically out of the ISP business since no one likes them anymore.

no. they did NOT MAKE JAVA.

                          they made JAVASCRIPT.

TOTALLY DIFFERENT! Here, I'll explain ;)

Sun Microsystems originally developed what is now called "Java" as a programming language for such things as coffee makers and other appliances, a easy way to reprogram these devices and so forth. It was originally called "Oak"- but at some point they realized that the language would work even better for web based applets. Anyway- it was all the rage for programming for a while- and Netscape was in the process of developing a scripting language for their browser. They were going to call it "LiveScript" but since they wanted to capitalize on the success of Java itself, they renamed it to JavaScript- even though it bears very little resemblance to Java (IE: not classes or OOP).

i think that's how they got their idea on how to make it, Java is kinda the Web version of C, similar syntax.

It's actually a LOT closer to VB then it is to C or C++.

not again! but from what wikipedia says:
                                Quote
Java is a programming language originally developed by Sun Microsystems and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems' Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode that can run on any Java virtual machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture.

                                seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_(programming_language)

not everything on wikipedia is accurate.the syntax is similar, but not only to C and C++, but a cazillion other languages that use the semicolon for a statement separator).

My reference was more towards the object based nature of java- C doesn't have a concept of an object at all (although you can fake it with virtual function pointers in a struct) and bothy C/C++ use pointers quite a lot, almost encouraging them. Java doesn't have pointers at all- and implements automatic cleanup. Although VB6 uses the reference counting facilities inherent in COM, while java uses Garbage collection, neither one provides the ability to use and reference values via pointers (although with some clever messing avbout with rtlMoveMemory, long variables and objects you can force visual Basic 6 to let you... although it's dangerous ground to experiment in, since if VB will often crash without careful planning as to the positions in code where the object pointers are manipulated... anyway... where was I?

To be blunt- nowadays, C# is a heck of a lot like Java, and I have a nagging suspicion it is really what Microsoft turned J++ into after the Sun lawsuit.

yes i was just saying the syntax is related, not the entire language is related to C
