If you want to get a Google rating don't bother with meta tags.It's spider is not interested. Get links, as many as possible.

Meta tags aren't as important as they used to be, but they are still widely used by search engines.  I suggest picking up the book Don't Make Me Think! by Steve Krug.  It takes maybe an hour to read and it's full of valuable information regarding SEO and practical site design that will help keep people interested.

kpac does bolding words really do anything? I used to do it on my old blog but I think it just made me look more desperate.

I can't say for certain if it actually does work, but many people say it does.  Of course, I don't know if you want to use the <b> tag or the <strong> tag for this, or if it matters at all.

I have my titles (not in the title tag) as <strong> and <h2> and I use css to make it look good.
