    HDD Problem.....

    Hi ,
     
    Unable to Boot my p.c an Error message appears :-

    "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key "
    It is not  a Death screen and this is the first time this type of message appears in my p.c.
    when i press any key again same message appears.


    kindly help.

      System specs please.
      Why is this thus?  What is the reason for this thusness?

        What type of hard drive ?
        What OS ?
        Any issues prior to this ?
        Any new Hard/Software installed recently ?

          Western Digital (SATA).
          Windows XP.
          No issues prior to this.
          And i have not installed any hardware/ software before getting this problem.
          I never loose , always learn from mistakes.....

          For starters i would try a new SATA data cable...can you hear the drive spinning up on restart ? ?

            Try doing what Patio said. Replace your SATA cable.

            no it is not detecting my HDD
            If the drive is not spinning up at start try both another new SATA data cable AND SATA power connector...

              it is nt detecting my HDD , Thr is no spinning sound , bt one "TAK TAK TAK " sounds does comes.  Can this "TAK TAK TAK " sound helps you.?

              Yes.
              It's known as the " Clik of Death" and means the HDD is failing...provided you took the advice mentioned about replacing both the power and data cables for that drive.
              I've also seen weak/failing PSU's make HDD's produce this effect but new cables are certainly cheaper than a PSU.
              You can borrow a known working PSU of the same or greater wattage to see if that's the issue but start with BRAND NEW cables first...
