It's also possible that they stopped because of the Government plan on giving broadband to everyone. If this were to happen or be passed into law it's likely they'd start handing out subsidies to companies help achieve this, which could save a lot of money with the implementation.
Yeah. They have been talking about this on CSPAN. If the government makes it too easy, the big companies will lose interest. The argument is that technology grows only when there is a balance of competition and opportunities. Or some thing like like. Kind of hard to follow.
BTW, AT&T has a technology that does very fast broadband into you home without either optics of cables all the way to the house. In the fiber is in the neighborhood, they have a super low-cost wireless system that runs circles around Wi-Fi or anything else. But, they have patents on the technology.If they were to deeply it, they would have to share it. But if they share it there is the question of license and fair play.
So that means they can't use it! Is that crazy?
