    Unknown program
    « on: July 10, 2016, 02:44:23 PM »
    Hi  -
When I shut down I get this message:1 program still needs to close    -  Waiting for (explorer.exe)
There are other parts to the message but they do not stay on the screen long enough for me to read them.
The message will go away and the computer will shut down.  How can I get rid of the program that is still running?
    Thanks for help.        Bob

Was Internet Explorer open when you shutdown?

Have you scanned for virus's and malware and came up clean with that?

Thanks for your reply.  To answer your first question - I always clear everything down to the screen picture before I shut down.  Second question  - I run my security (Avast, Melwarebytes, superantispyware) every 2 or 3 weeks. It has always been clear.   Last week I had a computer repair  shop  clear a problem with the internet supplier shutting down but this problem was before and after that.  This is not a big problem but just seems to be something  that is not right.
      Thanks again.    Bob

If you boot the system up and wait for all services to load and then shut it down without using the browser or opening any programs do you still have this condition on shutdown?

I turned on the computer and waited until I thought  everything  had time to run.  I then shut it down and I hate to tell you that the same message popped up.   There are other problems that bother me.  I had a shop work on the computer but they did not fix everything.  Dell has a tower for $250 which should be good enough for me.  I think I will buy it if they will load Windows 7 instead of 10.  Thanks for your time.  If you have any suggestions I will listen.           Thanks       Bob

Did the shop that fixed it give you a Win7 CD ? ?

The shop I used did not give me a Windows 7 CD.  If they gave me one would it be lawful?   Bob

Good question and one i can't answer...some shops are less than forthcoming.

You could try and run a startup repair on thst PC if you don't have the CD though.

When I click on "instructions"  I get "reimage"  which I have been told not to use.  I went back to the repair shop I used and they said seeing "a program is still running" is normal.  When I said it only came on recently, he said I was not seeing it and it had been there all the time.  I picked up my stuff and left the shop.  I am going to consult with my provider about my outages and see what happens.  I still am thinking about a new computer.   Thanks for your time.   Bob

If you are getting  "reimage" then your broser is being re-directed...thats a link to Win7 Forums with full info on running a repair install...it seems you have other issues.

BTW...the best thing you did is walking outta that shop...i suspect they used reimage...

Which means if it were me i would be seeking restitution from the shop that did the work...
            That's just me.

I'm kind of easy going BUT I have a long memory!!!  I live in central Texas and I know of only 2 repair shops in the area and now I will not go to either one.  I will try to run your suggestion.   Thanks     Bob

I tried to run the repair but what happens is reimage has a download that looks like what I want.  It is misleading.  When I read further I found out that the correct program should be in the computer.  It is not.  It should be on a disk.  I do not have a disk.  Windows 7 was in the computer when I bough it and I am not aware I got a disk.  Thanks for the infro.  I will work with what I have.    Thanks      Bob
