Updated to IE7 and Also Downloaded Firefox and Still can not connect

I was able to connect before i upgraded. So now i downloaded firefox and still nothing. It shows my little icon being connected so i did start - run - cmd ping www.google.com and i recieve a ping back. Any ideas on whats up? Thanks - JT

are you using a firewall? do your programs have the permission?

What type of connection is it? Windows version? What happens when you try to use browser?

Im running Earthlink Cable connection. System is Windows XP. When I try to use either browser, I get a page can not be displayed message. I checked in the system tray and it doesnt look as if any antivirus program is running. Also went into windows firewall and it is disconnected. Thanks - JT

If you go to Control Panel and open Network Connections, what do you see? 

From that panel, you might try creating a new connection by clicking on the link named "Create a new connection", under Network Tasks on the left side of the panel.  Or, try the Network Troubleshooter.

ok under Network Connections I have Earthlink Dialup (disconnected) Then i have Internet Connection Connected under Internet Gateway. Then under LAN or High Speed I have Connected, Firewalled Realtek RTL8139.

Have you called Earthlink tech support?  I'd give them a try.

Yes twice and they told me its not on there side since i was able to ping etc. they also made me go through cmd and clear some stuff and reboot etc - JT

If you start IE7 and go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, and click the button for LAN Settings, what do you see?

Connect computer straight to modem, and see if it helps.

Ok Computer is connected straight to modem and still nothing. The other computer on this network when it was hooked to router works great  (system im on) I hooked it back to router now so i can get on to respond to this. Do you think I should uninstall IE7? i dont think thats the issue since firefox doesnt work either Thanks  - JT

Uncheck "automatically detect settings".

Go to cmd, and type in:
ipconfig /all
Copy, and paste results back here.
