Windows XP a hot item on Amazon
« on: July 10, 2008, 10:31:50 AM »

Although Microsoft officially stopped selling Windows XP as of June 30, retailers can keep selling it as long as they have copies.

Perhaps as a result of its potentially impending scarcity, XP is near the top of Amazon.com's software list, with the full version of XP Home at No. 15 and the full version of XP Pro at No. 21.

I bet everyone that is buying them is going to try to sell them on ebay for profit.

Microsoft would have made more profit if they kept selling XP.

In the long run I'd imagine they'd make more by getting users to convert and stopping the support of XP.

which is more expensive, XP or Vista? (Vista), it they essentially "force" their customers into buying Vista instead of XP, they stand to make a larger profit, even if the OS isn't the freshest girl in the class. Did I just say that?

It's really more a forced software upgrade path then anything, otherwise half the world would still be running DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1, and (get this) getting the EXACT SAME work done, they just wouldn't be able to play as many games. The question is, is that a bad thing?

I expect that Amazon and Ebay must each be rubbing their hands together, (or maybe they're rubbing each other's hands together, I'm not sure about that) because, as everybody knows, there just isn't any other way to get a Windows XP install disk.

I read your post again :) I see. It can sometimes be difficult to gather the tone of a post from the first read-through.

With people being forced to use Vista lately, it doesn't surprise me one bit that XP sales are increasing.
