Unable to log onto WLM

Every time I open up windows live messenger and attempt to log on it comes up with an error 800700cb, I've tried searching google with no results relevent to this error code being found nor in the msn help files. I would be greatl;y appreciative of anyone helping out.

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail just so you know. I think my computer might have a few other bugs, but I'm not sure exactly.

Try updating your .NET framework

Ok Update install failed, no error codes were given.. any ideas?

ok that's odd...were you using the offline or online installer?

I tried one of both online and offline same thing each time. No error code it just won't install.. something "Has encountered an error see website for help" and on the website nothing was useful or even similair to my problem.

okay do you have adequate hard drive space? I remember a windows product installation (I think it was messenger) that would fail because I had under 300MB of space on drive C at the time.

I'm assuming 40gb on C: and 100gb on D: would be sufficient for nearly any install..

Sorry but I don't know what to do from here because that error code was to do with .NET framework not MSN itself

Hmm, I know I have a user environment error on log in.. could that be related to it? It's never caused a real problem that I noticed before, but I hadn't used it for awhile. It was something like "Could not load user environment, loading default profile for the system" but nothing seemed to be different.

That could be all the issue 

MSN always was a bit temperamental, but try creating a new user account for yourself, and logging into windows with that, then try MSN again.

Alright I tried that, and it did work but is there any way to fix this user account or at the very least preserve all the settings I have along with data etc..? I'd like to be able to make a near mirror image of the old account without the errors.

you could try the settings and files transfer wizard.

Log into the account you want to save

Start > All Programs > accessories > sysem tools > Files and Settings transfer Wizard.

tell it that this computer is your "old computer"

Unblock the wizard in the firewall dialogue if it asks

Select other for the location

Put it somewhere you will remember where it is > next

If you want a complete transfer then click next.

It will then take a few minutes or so to collect the data.

once it is finished, log out and log in to your new login.

run the wizard again, this time stating it is your new computer.

point it to the folder you put the files and settings in before (not the numbered sub-folder)

and follow through the wizard and viola you should have an identical desktop

Ok I am attempting to do this right now, but it is taking a heck of a long time.. well I'll bear with it and get back to you when it's finished. If this works it will probably make my week
