screwing with scammers
« on: March 29, 2009, 12:28:54 PM »
http://www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm

I have never laughed so hard in my life.

I mean, there is messing with a scammer by wasting a few e-mails, and then their is taking on different personas, getting them to send an affiliate to scotland, subsequently telling that affiliate that they wasted their time, then phoning the original scammer who sent to affiliate to "confirm payment" of the large sum to the affiliate; when money didn't change hands.

Then when the original scammer STILL trys to get money for "police fees", they tell him to call their "austrian assistant" to confirm payment. When he does they subsequently use a Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboard to carry on the entire assistants side of the conversation.... I' m still chuckling now....

And that's just a sample...

I can't believe I never found this before!

I just read one about where a scammer was tricked into a audio book recording and they read a 109pg book and recorded it for nothing! Wow these are good

This is awesome.  When I get snail-mail scams, I use the paid postage to send packages.  You can send up to 75 pounds!

When it comes to these Nigerian scammers, they are always suffering from ill fate.  They are very accident-prone, suicidal, in debt, and having their lives threatened.  If you are not able to entice them with convincing offers, you're not going to much out of them.

And despite what these people do, I'm fairly certain that posting their e-mail addresses would be against forum policy.  Your best bet is to visit the 419 Eater forum.

I was so mad though.  Wanna see the emails? It was funny though cause I said I was chuck norris and my wife was reese witherspoon.  Heres the email I sent replying to the first one. Fake name generator is the best!

Dear Mr. Andrew Watkins,

I am Edvin Lindgren.  I live in Sweden.  I would like to help you get your money to donate.  I am very sorry about your condition.  Before I have the money transferred, I would like something else from you.  I own a small bait shop called Bad Fish Bait shop.  It is our 10th aniversery.  I would like a picture of a group of people dressed in fishing gear holding a small sign written on a peice of paper that says "I have been baited by bad fish bait shop" so I can put out an add.  I would like some preliminary pictures of you also.  After I get the picture, I will be more than glad to get you your money.  Once I get it I will give you 800,000 Swedish Kronor, which is about 101,322.4 usd.  I would like the picture to have about 10 people.  For every additional person, I will give you 10,000 Kronor.  I will also give you 50,000 Kronor if the picture is taken on a boat.  If you do not have fishing gear, please do the best to find some.  If you cant get the fishing gear, I will give you money for that too.  I would also like you to be holding fishing poles.  Even if they are just made of sticks and have string on them.  So first, can I have a picture of you and I will tell you if I think you will be ok for the add.  Remeber, when you are done with this, I will help you to donate your money.  I will give no money in advanced.  Please respond.

Thank you for your help,
Edvin Lindgren

Personally, I don't think it's very convincing.  You're offering a LOT of money, which instantly sends a red flag.  Your fake bait shop can't even afford a web site or directory listing, but it can afford to spend that much money on a picture?  It doesn't add up.  And the way you explain how you want everything done and then say "I will give no money in advance", it sounds like a set-up.  Especially since you are giving a stipulation for the donation.  What you need to do is explain that you can't simply give the money away, but if he is willing to take some promo pictures, you can offer to pay him a reasonable amount.  If you manage to trick someone with that e-mail, they must be very gullible.

And like I said, this sort of talk is better off at the 419 forum.  Although entertaining, I'm not certain that this sort of discussion is necessarily appropriate.  Even if I feel that this reverse scamming is justified, it is considered illegal because you are technically trying to pull scams on people.  In fact, you are even seeking them out, which is exactly what they do.  I'm not sure what country you live in and what the laws are like there, but this forum is maintained in USA and abides by US laws.  And in this country, we typically don't rationalize eye-for-an-eye crimes, unless it is a special case.

I could be wrong, but I believe if proof were provided, you could possibly be charged and arrested for this.  Don't me get me wrong; I think these scammers totally deserve it...I just don't think this is the right place to discuss scamming methods, regardless of the reason.  I mean, we don't tell people how to retrieve passwords because of how the information can be misused, right?  This isn't any different.  So, from now on, I think it's best to stick to the 419 Eater FAQ.  And if you have any questions or want comments, you should probably post it on their forum.  Unless, of course, Nathan disagrees with me on this.

I've been thinking about this one.  Isn't the paid postage usually pre-addressed?
