Appendix

Updated: 02/04/2024 by Computer Hope

With a book or other written material, an appendix lists additional information relating to the material being discussed. For example, in a book about computers, the appendix may contain a list of hundreds of computer models. This information is great for reference but wouldn't be as useful or be too overwhelming if placed in the book.

Appendix, index, and table of contents

The table of contents is always found at the beginning of the book and contains a list of chapters and sections. The appendix and index are always found at the end of the book. The appendix has additional information relating to the contents of the book. The index is an alphabetical list of names, terms, and other words in the book with their associated page numbers. The index allows a reader to find a page containing a certain word.
