Can't "enable bidirectional communication"
« on: March 11, 2009, 12:45:14 PM »
My OS is Vista Business.  I just installed a Lexamark Z730 Printer and when I print a test page is says, "unable to communicate with printer, please enabe BIDIRECTIONAL communication in printer properties".  Well, I looked in the printer properties under the PORTS tab, and the "bidirectional support" option is not active so there is no way to check the box.

any ideas here?   thanks

It's possible that you may need to adjust this through your CMOS setup. I'd suggest rebooting the computer and entering CMOS setup and see if you can change the LPT port or printer port within it.

Additional information about entering CMOS at:

Are you using the correct/latest "driver" for that printer?

Lexmark site routes me to:  Lexmark Z730 Color Jetprinter

Ok, Apparently  I didn't have the right driver installed...  Originally the printer was on my Windows XP machine, and I got the driver off of the XP machine through the network, so, the driver probably wasn't compatible with Vista... I did manage to download a driver compatible with Vista and successfully print a test page.............

    thanks all   ;D
