Maybe you should make it so that people with less than a certain post count can't put URLs in their post at all...

I did think about that, however I can think of a lot of valid reasons users would need to put a URL in their post. It definitely would help with spam, but think it'd hender the forums more than it'd help.

OK...well can you remove the http:// part of the url tag? Watch. It will automatically add http:// to the url even if it already contains it.

It would kill the malware forum. Many logs have a link in them somewhere.

It shouldn't be adding extra code into the URL tags like the examples you showed. How exactly are you typing these in?

CH link test
e-mail test

Update: I believe I know the causes for your issues. When doing the BBC tag for URL it should not start with quotes otherwise it'll think it's not starting with a proper URL and will add http your tag should look like the below example.

Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.google.ca]Google[/url]
As far as the mailto, I believe it's doing that because of the same situation, seeing that it doesn't see the http: it adds it. I believe there may be an alternative bbc for mailto, but need to look it up since It's not coming to me. Additionally just simply typing in the URL address without the BBC code will work and HTML code is also allowed.

Update2: Guess there isn't a BBC tag in doing this or not that I could find. However, you could do a HTML a href tag with a mailto and that'd work.

e-mail link

Code:

Code: [Select]
<a href="mailto:[email protected]">e-mail link</a>

I've changed the ICQ icon from the remote ICQ server to the Computer Hope server. Users who had this icon enabled would cause any thread they posted in to slowly load and/or time-out while the icon was attempting to be loaded from ICQ.

Thanks to Patio for pointing this out.  ;D

So that's what was causing it?!  I kept having all kinds of weird lag on certain pages on CH but I didn't know what was causing it.  Kudos to patio for figuring it out and kudos to you for fixing it.  The site runs nice and smooth on every page now.

Can you make it so if you create a thread, you can edit your posts after the 1hour limit within the thread. It might make it be a little easier for threads like the Installer's Hall of Shame.

Not sure why the need for editing is critical here...
The original Post should be well thought out and worded properly before hitting the Post key.

I honestly can't think of any reason why someone would need to edit a post after an hour. If any reasons can be posted and/or if the community overall really wants this changed it can be. But until then I think it should remain at one hour. This was done to help prevent abuse.

I've been working on implementing RSS feeds into portions of the website and linking them to ( http://www.computerhope.com/rss.htm ). Since the forums already have RSS capabilities I've gone ahead and created test links for this page and a new RSS button that you may or may not see at the top of the forums. It's likely I'll be playing around with this for a bit but thought I'd at least let everyone know so there isn't too much confusion.

Do you want an icon to match to others?

Not sure if the icons will be staying, which is why I didn't really put to much work into doing the one that's currently shown.

After some work with restructuring the header of the forum, I ended up doing a complete re-work of the header. Additional details and comments can be posted on the below thread.

Helpmeh, that's just one topic, and it's system already works.

There really is no need to bring back the unrestricted editing system.
