AFIPS

Short for the American Federation of Information Processing Societies, AFIPS was an umbrella organization founded on May 10, 1961. AFIPS was a collection of professional organizations whose mission was to advance knowledge in information science and introduce its organizations under its umbrella. While in operation, AFIPS helped fund such things as The Computer Chronicles. The organization was later dissolved in 1990 as the IEEE-CS became popular.
