Short for Internet of Everything, IoE was coined by Cisco and describes a network that connects everything (buildings, cars, computers, data, machines, people, and other things).

Unlike IoT (Internet of Things), which focuses only on connecting physical things to the Internet. IoE focuses on connecting everything, not only devices. Also, IoE includes intelligence with AI (artificial intelligence) or ML (machine learning) to make all connected systems work and understand their environment. In some ways, IoT could be considered a part of IoE.

In an IoE environment, all connected things are decentralized and the input they receive is exchanged with other connected things when beneficial to that connected device. For example, in the manufacturing sector, a company may use IoE on all of its equipment. The equipment could communicate its status, use, and other information to connected equipment, systems, and people. This communication could help predict equipment failure, let other equipment know when failure occurs, and provide a safer interaction with other equipment and humans.
