Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia, structured as a wiki that anyone can edit. It was launched in 2001 by Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales.
As of 2019, Wikipedia contains approximately six million articles in the English language, and 34 million articles in an additional 300 languages. Approximately 500 million people view Wikipedia every month.
Wikipedia is operated by the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation.
