What's the cause of severe page tearing?
    « on: June 10, 2010, 10:10:02 AM »
Is it the GPU (I have an ATI) or is it a PSU issue?  I've looked around on google yet some say the tearing is caused by the CPU, which is hard to believe. :P (Even though I am technology-challenged)

If you're having an issue, please provide details about your system, the game(s) you're having trouble with, and what specifically you are experiencing.

I could sit here all night and discuss causes for tearing.

My point is that this shouldn't have been posted 5 times over 5 months. He was given solutions and suggestions before, but because he doesn't agree with them or didn't want to try any of them, he abandons those threads and starts new ones.

So the question now is, did he try the suggestions given before?

Page tearing is not a problem with your card or with your screen...it is simply because your card and your screen are not in sync with each other using vSync.

In the ATi control panel, go to 3D, and list all options.

The portion labeled vertical sync, slide the slider all the way to the right (Always On)

You will no longer get page tearing as your graphics card will now always try its best to output at a number divisible by your screen's refresh rate (Most likely 60 Hz).
